Great insight as usual! For my writing (mainly poetry) I try to keep it simple and to the point. Some poems are way too vague for me to grasp but then, it is probably much appreciated by other people. It's all a matter of preference.
Two years after posting, your thoughts still resonate. As a singer/songwriter, I find music everywhere; odd then, that it never accompanied my writing. Inspired by your metaphors, my mind returns to Peter and The Wolf. As a child, I couldn't listen enough to Prokofiev. Your thoughts nudge me now. A brash antagonist trumpets his bravery. A timid protagonist tiptoes over cello strings con pizzicato. These images take on a new timbre. Thank you.
